یہ ہم نہیں۔۔۔ We aren’t these!

This song being aired by so many channels now a days is just fantabulous in terms of its subject line, video and of course the singers who have sung it; the creame of our pop music industry like Strings, Ali Zafar, Hadiqa kyani, Ali Haider and Shafqat Amanat Ali.

The song is based on the repulsion of the myth regarding the association of Islam with that of terrorism and violence. As the Muslim communities all over the world are attacked by the biased western media, attempting to connect the very religion Islam with the events of terrorism and extremism on the face of the earth, the Muslims around the world are finding it difficult to negate the hateful propagandas courtesy their weak media structure and not so strong technological advancements. The fact of the matter is that it is the MONEYnot the RELIGION which is the root of the desctruction going around different parts of the world and the song I’m talking about portrays the same. It is heartening to see our pop stars combining to promote the cause of peace which is of course is the need of the hour.

Basant-At the cost of what?

As we have seen off the unusually harsh weather of winter, we now a days are thrilled by the diversified colors, soft blowing winds and mild temperatures of spring. Spring is a weather associated with the reinvigoration of life in the autumn ravaged plants and brings with iteself a lot for the human beings to enjoy. The arrival of the spring season is welcomed and enjoyed in most of the countries around the world in the forms of different festivities and the arrangements of special gatherings; so is the case in our country. In Pakistan, the festivals like Basant and Shandur Polo Tournament are arranged to herald a month and a half long season in which nature presents its ingredients of beauty in an extravagant manner. In a country like Pakistan where one is constantly feeded with the news of terror, suicides, murders and all that depress the minds and cast gloom, one deservedly needs festivals like Basant to deviate somehow from the realities in hand and cherish a few moments of bliss. But as we Pakistanis often make a mess of any kind of liberty we are given courtesy our inclination for the exhibition of power and wealth, we often end up quite awkward causing damage either to ourselves or our fellow countrymen. Same is the case in our celebration of the Basant festival. Every year countless amount of money is spent on the associated activities with kite flying. Exhibitions of power and weatlh are arranged on the roof tops of popular hotels and houses besides events like fashion shows and musical concerts are organised to promote the soft image of a country where the miseries of reality strike quite hard.

The lives of at least 8 people are reported to be taken by the ongoing Basant festival either in the shape of throat cuttings by the strings of the kites or by the aerial firings. There has been a power break down on at least 500 occassions since the day before yesterday which might have caused severe damage to electrical home appliances and this all has been resulted from a festival of ENJOYMENT. In a country where more than half of its citizens are living a life below the poverty line and where a large portion of its population is deprived of quality education, pure drinking water and electricity, the lavish demonstrations of enjoyment and mauj masti cannot be justified. What we are showing the world through all these over actings are that we are a nation composed of extreme elements, either extremely settled or extremely deprived. In order to move forward or make a name for ourselves in the community of nations we will have to strive for that fine balance, something that can make us flow smoothly to reach our desired glory.

The Spring- A contrast…

When the spring is just around the corner,

And the sky is wrapped in the color blue,

I wonder how to feel the joy,

Without you.

When the flowers are clad in the colors,

And fragrance is floating in the atmosphere,

My senses are searching to find you,

And the sky has palmed,

The light shedding stars,

But it’s only the moon mourning your loss,

Just like my heart bearing your pain,

With so many scars.

Thank God! it is over..

While I was describing about the pleasant effects of rain on my mind I was unaware about the upcoming health hazards I might be facing in the ongoing rainy weather. On the last Monday night I started to feel some severe pain around the areas of my left kidney. The pain was almost unbearable and I was rushed to the hospital by a friend of mine where I went through a period characterised by inexplicable pain, depressed thoughts, and all the related laboratory procedures. One of the veins in my hand was pricked for the insertion of IV canula and I was injected four times with pain killers. The painful condition of my body was worsened by the added thoughts of associated anxiety and lonliness even though I was having the company of a few friends and office mates. The flow of pain killers in my veins gradually helped normalize my physical condition and I felt relieved after the lapse of a few hours.

Now I look back and think it was just a reminder for me to thank Almighty Allah for a gift as precious as sound health which we are being endowed with by Allah but we the blind followers of the materials of the world, sometimes turns a blind eye to acknowledge the blessings showered upon us by the forces unseen unless we find ourselves caught in some kind of a trouble.

Here comes the next…

Well well well! The news of these suicide bombings are pouring and pouring as we are stunned by yet another incident of a suicide bomb attack at a tightly packed security zone like Islamabad airport. It is the worst spell of terrorism Pakistan has been gripped by since Pakistan joined hands with its western allies to curb extremism and terrorism. Moments later the arrival of the Prime Minister with Foriegn Minister from Gwadar, a green colored corolla boarding two persons allegedly tried to break into the VIP lounge of Islamabad airport. One of the persons opened fire at the security personnel upon investigation and their subsequent stoppage to enter into the VIP lounge. There was a brief encounter of firing between the terrorists and security personnel before one of the terrorists blew himself up with the explosives attached to his body while the other was caught on the spot. The driver of the vehicle who claims to be a taxi owner having no connection with the terrorists, admittedly accompanied the persons from Pendorha chungi to airport, was also taken into custody for further investigations. All in all it was a brave effort on part of the airport security personnel to stop the terrorists from going inside the VIP lounge otherwise a whole lot of destruction couldn’t be ruled out.

Now if we delve into the issue of this surge in suicide attacks, we cannot look the other way but to our north-western borders, the areas adjoining Afghanistan and of course Afghanistan given the hostility shown by its rulers towards Pakistan in the recent times. In the wake of our government’s suppressive actions in the region of Wana and Waziristan, one cannot ignore the threats given by a tribal leader called Baitullah Masud who has shown to the media a legion of about 100 persons whom he described as the wanna be suicide bombers and whom he threatened to use against the governement in the well established areas of Pakistan in case the Governement continues with its policies of using force in the tribal areas. While things are getting complicated for the governement to tackle the complicated task of suicide bombings there needs a through contemplation over the policies of the present government to check whether we have given too much for a war not initially of our own but which certainly is taking its toll on the masses of Pakistan. The atmosphere of fear and uncertaintly might play a role in destablising our economy and create choase much to the satisfaction of the enemies of Pakistan. Another political twist might be round the corner, like imposition of emegency and postponment of the coming elections.
